Fruit Chronicles (Crónicas de la Fruta)

As an arts educator, I focus on teaching young students about color and color theory. We begin by examining and understanding primary colors so we can create other color families that are warm and other color families that are cool. This teaches students that colors can be manipulated to express feelings and moods.

I recently did a color blocking project with my two year old daughter to document her in her toddler stage.  For the project, I created the paper monsteras to mimic the plant in her bedroom where she sleeps and plays. My daughter Frida was given the creative freedom to express herself, play, and to explore with the props with no direction while I photographed her.

I will install a large-scale portrait of my daughter at play and will transform the photograph to a mixed media piece by integrating other objects such as yarn, glitter, and markers.

The project is intended to represent childhood, families, nostalgia, and play.
